Leadership: The urgent need for true leaders

0

Arochukwu is in search of both political and community leaders who can lead the people to the promise land. Not leaders that will organise parties and give the people handouts which cannot solve our problems especially the youths.

We need leaders who will build or renovate our dilapidated schools, renovate our hospital as the state of our General Hospital is pitiable, construct or grade our internal roads or even attract the various levels of governments to fix the roads create employment opportunities for our teaming but idle youths.

In the seventies, the East Central State government through the Eastern Nigeria Development Company (ENDC), set up a palm processing farm. We need more of such farms now in Arochukwu to provide employment opportunities and food for the people. Our leaders can set up poultry, fish snail, grass cutter and other farms in our community.

Our political leaders should also ensure that Arochukwu has a stadium. During our secondary school days in Aro, most of our sporting activities were held at Baraki field; today no sporting activity can take place there.
Hon. Chibuike Jonas in his capacity as the LGA Chairman started the construction of a mini stadium at Baraki. That initiative should not be abandoned by the present crop of political leaders. They should take up the gauntlet and ensure that the project is completed.

Provision of healthcare is another very important aspect that should be taken seriously by our leaders. Arochukwu General Hospital is an eyesore, while the Aro USA Clinic should be given the necessary support it requires to ensure that our people get quality healthcare. If summounting the challenges of the general hospital is a herculean one, our political leaders can influence the transfer of medical personnel to the Aro USA Clinic.

The Universal Basic Education (UBE) can be used to supply, renovate and donate desks to our schools. If other politicians take advantage of these government agencies to better the lots of their people, so why can’t Aro leaders also do same?

Onu Asu Nwabeke and the Ibini Ukpabi caves are potential revenue earners for the local government if only our leaders can eschew selfishness and attract the federal and state governments to develop some of these historical sites. Also the large deposit of limestone in our community should be put on the front burner by our leaders especially the politicians. The Ministry of Solid Minerals should be invited and it can be taken from there.
Aro is in search of selfless leaders who can reposition our community. We want problem solving leaders who will have leadership behaviours and principles; transparent and team players. They must carry others along and show commitment.

The present attitude of our youths is a time bomb waiting to explode and only great and visionary leaders can avert this looming disaster.
