Abia government to pay salary arrears of ASCETA staff

The Abia State Government has reiterated its commitment to clear the 10 months arrears of salaries owed workers of the Abia State College of Education (Technical’), Arochukwu, with the bail-out funds being released to the state by the Federal government. The amount involved is in the neighbourhood of N14.152 billion.

The news was broken to the officials of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COASU), ASCETA chapter, led by its president, Dr Joseph Kanu, during a courtesy call on the Secretary to Abia State Government, Dr. Emenike Okoro, in Umuahia.

The SSG said the government was determined to clear the backlog of salaries, such that no worker will be owed wages in the college.

He also promised prudent and careful use of the bail-out funds to enable the government apply the funds in the areas of need and avoid profligacy.

Earlier in his address at the occasion, the president of ASCETA branch at the COEASU, Dr. Joseph Kanu, regretted that up to 10 months of salary arrears were owed lecturers and staff of the college, calling on the authorities to avert a repeat of the situation.
