The senator representing Abia North Senatorial Zone in the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa has been appointed the Senate Committee Chairman on Primary Health and Communicable Diseases.

He is one of the 24 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators that bagged committee chairmanship in the upper legislative chamber. Their colleagues from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) got 41 chairmanship positions.

Announcing the composition of the various committees, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, charged the senators to bring their wealth of experiences to bear in discharging their oversight functions. He reminded them that the nation was going through some trying times and urged his colleagues to be at their best at all times.

Sen. Ohuabunwa, it will be recalled, was in 2009 appointed board chairman, National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.

A two-time member of the House of Representatives, Sen Ohuabunwa, who is also a microbiologist by training, is expected to reposition primary health care in the country.
