Mazi John Okoro bows out at 93

The death has occurred of Mazi John Akaego Okoro of Isimkpu village, Arochukwu at the ripe age of 93 years. He was born on 26th June, 1926 in Isiegbu Bende, in Bende Local Government of Abia State.

He attended the Methodist School, Bende; Church of Scotland Mission School, Igbere and the Methodist Central School, Afougiri.

Mazi Okoro worked as a Pupil/Auxiliary Teacher at Methodist School, Bende, clerical staff with Elder Dempster Lines, the Nigeria Railways Corporation and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) from where he retired in 1986.

He was Secretary, Arochukwu Union in Port Harcourt, and later in life, was honoured as Patron of Isimkpu Development Union and Nzuko Aro, Lagos branch.

A keen sportsman, Mazi Okoro played active lawn tennis until his death and was a member of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Tennis Club in FESTAC Town, Lagos.

He is survived by children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, in-laws and other relatives.
