First Arochukwu Elderly Care Conference holds

The need for Aro sons and daughters to embrace the care for elderly persons for healthy living and tap from their wealth of experience cannot be over emphasized.  The Chairman, Arochukwu Elderly Care Initiative Conference, 2019,  Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, OFR, made the assertion during the maiden edition of the programme with the theme ‘Enhancing the Well Being and Care for the Elderly Persons in Arochukwu’ held at Atani Hall, Atani Village, on the 28th of December, 2019. 

Ohuabunwa stressed the need for people to imbibe the habit of taking good care of themselves by eating food that nourishes the body and a live worthy of emulation so that they will be young at heart when they grow old saying that what we do today as young adults will determine our life when we grow old.           

He thanked Umu Aro for their participation and the convener, Mazi Ottih Nwaka for his Vision to establish a programme for the elderly and prayed to God for its sustainability in Arochukwu ancient kingdom.                                  

In his welcome address, the Convener, Mazi Ottih Nwaka opined that it was time to make a difference by embracing the Arochukwu Elderly Care Initiative and supporting it financially and otherwise to help give our elderly ones hope for living a meaningful life. Mazi Nwaka harped on the need to establish an Adult Day Care Centre to care for the physical and emotional needs of the aged in Arochukwu and it’s environ, work with trained adult day care clients staff who must be supervised by an employee of the facility at all times while the employee should report a change in any physical, mental, emotional or social function of the client to the director of the facility. He advised families if the Elderly persons to engage trained caregivers to take care of their aged parents.

                                                       

In her keynote address, Comrade Nma Ozioma Onwuka- Okereke warned parents who were in the habit of encouraging their children not to help their relations and neighbours whenever they visit home to desist from such act as it’s these same people they see as their enemies that will be of help to them in times of emergency especially at odd times .                             

Comrade Onwuka-Okereke advised young adults that with love, taking care of the elderly will not pose any challenge rather give the aged the opportunity to live a meaningful life and they in turn tap from their wealth of experience to achieve a lot in life.                                               

Professor Solomon Umeham, Arch Victoria Onu, Dr Orji Ogbonnaya Orji and Dr Joachim China Akwaeke’s presentations which hinged on these topics ‘Government Policies, Their Role and Responsibilities to the Elderly Persons’, ‘The Benefits of Nursing Homes to our Health Care Industry in Nigeria’, ‘UN Agenda on Sustainable Goals: Agenda 2030 How Elderly Persons in Arochukwu Can Benefit from it,’ ‘How Medical Conditions in Elderly Persons Could Be Avoided Through Preventive Measure,’focused on the best way to drive the project of taking care of the Event Persons in Arochukwu Ancient Kingdom. 

Other dignitaries who graced the event include Dr Azubuike Okoro, Mazi Ike Onu , Engr Chinedu Oti, Mazi & Mrs. Nwosu Nwaka, Mazi Chekwas Oti, members of community and public health workers.
