NAAS gets new exco as Genesis bows out

Members of the National Association of Arochukwu Students (NAAS WORLDWIDE) an umbrella body covering all Arochukwu Students in various higher institutions in Nigeria and abroad, on Thursday, 2nd January 2020 went to the ballot to elect a new leadership. The election which took place at Mary Slessor Secondary School, Amannagwu, Arochukwu was conducted by NAAS Independent Students Electoral Commission ISEC led by Comr. Nwosu Chidiebere and observed by past and present national and chapter executives including an emeritus president Mazi Uche Nwaka.

The election processes began with the presentation of manifestos by candidates who filed out to sale their manifestos to their fellow students.

In his address the outgoing President, Giant Comrade Obasi Praise Genesis appealed with members and delegates from chapters to be of good conduct and vote  candidates of their choice in  peaceful manner. He called for a free and fair election Also speaking, outgoing Secretary General of NAAS Mazi Igwe Umozurike informed that the handover ceremony will hold in Easter and encouraged the winners not to let the fire die out.

After a keenly contested election, Comrade Victor Okereke from ABSU chapter was elected National President while Comrade Frank Esther Dignity from Federal Polytechnic Oko chapter was elected vice president among other positions.

In another development, the Abia State College of Education (Technical) Arochukwu has elected a Students Union Government (SUG) after many years of inactivity.

After the re-appointment of the Provost of the College, Dr. Phillip Nto, the need to have a student’s government was emphasized by the Provost.

 After the election which was supervised by Comrade Frank Eme, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B rep, eight umu Aro were elected into the fourteen elective positions available. They are Mazi Nwosu Osita Favour, President, Adamazi Umozurike Agnes, Vice President, Okoronkwo Glory Samuel, Assistant Secretary, Irokanulo Chinenye, Treasurer, Ikenga Justice, Director of Transport. Others are Moses Uchechukwu, Director of Sports, Oledi Joy, Welfare Secretary and  Nnennaya Felix, Students Representative Council member. 

In an exclusive interview with Aro News, the newly elected president, Nwosu Osita Favour,  expressed gratitude to God for bringing him this far and to the students for believing in him. He used the opportunity to congratulate the Provost on his reappointment stating that his return was necessary to allow him finish the good works he started in the school. 

He explained that the Provost had helped the Union recover her Sienna vehicle that has been in Umuahia for a long time and had also helped the SUG complete and furnish its secretariat.
