Work begins on Lot 2 of Bende-Arochukwu-Ohafia road

Rehabilitation work has begun on the Ohafia-Bende-Umuahia-Arochukwu Route F107, being executed by Messrs Hartland/Setraco Nig. Limited.

The work commenced in earnest from the Ohafia end, along Abam axis, heading towards Bende.

The contractors are currently carrying out palliative repairs to reinstate the critically failed portions of the road corridor to facilitate easier access on the dilapidated road.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently approved the award of the road to Messrs Hartland/Setraco – the same firm handling the Lot 1 – to the tune of N12billion.

Aro News learned that only N300million was captured for the Lot 1 of the road – which extends from the Old Soldier junction in Ohafia to Arochukwu – in the 2021 Appropriation Bill.

The contract for the reconstruction of Lot 1 of the road was awarded in July 2018 to Messrs Setraco/Hartland for N5, 490, 680, 078, while the construction of Abiriba-Arochukwu-Ohafia road, which was awarded in December, 2012, is still left in the hands of Messrs Beks Kimse Nig Ltd.

And with the demise of Prof. Kimse Okoko, Chairman of the company, and his son who doubles as Managing Director, observers fear that the fate of the road project is hanging in the balance.
