Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has sworn-in a new Transition Committee Chairman for Arochukwu Local Government Area. He is Mazi Emmanuel Okwuobasi Kanu (aka Jideofor), who replaces the recently deceased chairmen, Engr. Maurice Onyekachi Okoro.

The swearing in ceremony was performed in the State capital Umuahia on January 22, by the deputy governor, Dr. Ude Oko Chukwu, on behalf of the governor.

Chukwu, after the swearing in ceremony, charged the new TC Chair to perform his duties diligently, and to see his new position as an opportunity to serve the people.

Indeed Kanu is coming into office with a robust political background, having previously served as deputy chairman of the council.

Kanu, a political strategist, is reputed to have worked assiduously for his party – the Peoples Democratic Party – and its various candidates to ensure their strings of successes in Abia State.

A native of Atani village in Arochukwu, Kanu was a two-term President of Nzuko Arochukwu, Lagos branch; a member of Aro-Okeigbo Social Club of Nigeria (AROSON) and Ezienyi club. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious Aggrey Memorial College, Arochukwu and the Lagos State University.

He is also the Chairman of Chemok Investment Ltd and Cenec Heritage Ltd.

His appointment has been hailed across the political divide as a round peg in a round hole, given his understanding of the yeanings of the people of the council.
