Group holds road safety seminar for commercial motorcyclists

A non-governmental organization in Arochukwu – Yes World Organization – has organized a one-day seminar on road safety for members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (Motorcycle unit) in Arochukwu. The seminar, which was held on November 27, in the union’s office at Avia Nkwo, had members of Yes World Organization, members of Okada union and their patrons in attendance.

Delivering a paper on “Life; the most Essential Commodity”, Rev. James I. Kanu called on Okada riders to ride carefully on the road for their safety and that of their passengers. He said that the Christmas season comes with a lot of risks and temptation but every road user must be extremely careful to save his or her life.

The second lecture was on “Maintenance Culture and Safety On Our Roads” was delivered by Deacon Samuel Okoro Yes Master). He maintained that as a people who serve the public, Okada riders must maintain their motorcycles and also maintain a good personal hygiene.

He warned against drinking and driving, smoking and over-speeding. Deacon Okoro equally advised the riders not to take the job as a permanent one, but hope for a better future.

In his response, the Chairman of the Union, Mr. Onyemuche expressed delight and thanked members of the Yes World Organization for showing concern for the safety and lives of Umu Aro especially as the Christmas period draws near. 

He expressed optimism that the seminar will make a positive impact on the lives of their members thereby reducing the rate of accidents during the Yuletide period.

A beneficiary of the seminar, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoro, spoke to Aro News encouraging his colleagues to practice what they have learnt to stay alive.
