Eze Aro of Arochukwu ancient Kingdom, His Eminence Dr Eberechukwu Oji, and other residents have lauded the Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti, over the reconstruction of the long-neglected Ohafia-Arochukwu Road. 

The roads to the community had for centuries necessitated the expression, “there is no road to Arochukwu that is easy”. 

Of the 43-kilometre road that started by the Federal Government through the intervention of the senator representing Abia North, Governor Otti recently flagged off the reconstruction of the remaining 33 km stretch into Arochukwu. 

Eze Aro said: “We cannot thank our governor enough. This is a road that has been abandoned for many years and is the main road coming into Arochukwu in Abia. The governor has remembered us; we can only thank him and encourage him. 

“It is not only in Arochukwu he is working; he is working in the entire Abia State, converting the entire State into a big construction zone. So we praise his focus and delivery performance”. 

A septuagenarian, Kalu Thomas Okoro, said: “Otti has broken the legendary saying that there is no route to Aro that is easy”. 

Earlier during the inspection from the Ohafia end of the road to Arochukwu main town, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, mandated the contractor, Ifeanyi Okorie to cut down hills and sand fill areas where necessary and mandated the contractor to do further paper analysis of certain areas of the road and present to him. 

Oti recalled that at the Ututu village axis of the road, a fatal accident claimed many lives, adding: “I can’t forget when a vehicle rolled back and a lot of people were killed.”

He warned that the government wants a quality job on the road.
