Two young men – Alfred Okechukwu and Onyebuchi Kanu – both of Ugwuakuma village, were on August 30, 2022, sentenced to one-year imprisonment each.

They are members of a gang of criminals which specialized in vandalizing public assets, breaking into public facilities and private residences and carting away valuable property.

The two soul mates were arraigned before the Arochukwu Magistrate Court charged with burgling the Primary Healthcare Centre at Ugwuakuma, and stealing valuable items.

They were among the suspects nabbed by hardworking operatives of the Arochukwu Kingdom Neighborhood Watch (AKNW), following incidents of burglary in parts of Arochukwu.

Thus, they were handed over to the Police, which followed up with diligent prosecution in court.

Earlier, two other members of the gang – Chimezie Ogbonnaya and Kingsley Kalu – both residents of Agbagwu village, who allegedly dismantled and carted away the solar energy light system, were sentenced to six months imprisonment each.

The conviction and sentencing of the criminal quartet brought some relief to residents of the community, prompting some to jump for joy following the breaking of the news.

Meanwhile, Coordinator of the AKNW, Hon Jideofor Kanu, has sent out strong warning to criminals who are either hiding within or sneak into the community to wreck havoc, to stay away from Arochukwu, vowing that they will always be caught by the long arms of the law.
