The Abia State government recently gave approval in principle for the upgrade of the Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu (ASCETA) to a university.
The upgrade of the institution was one of the decisions reached during one of its the State Executive Council meetings held at the Government House in Umuahia.
Other decisions reached by the exco include the following:
Bifurcation of Abia State Ministry of Education into Ministry of Basic Education and Ministry of Post Basic Education;
Conversion of the following institutions, subject to approval by the State House of Assembly, to Universities as follows:
Abia State Polytechnic to become Abia State University of Science and Technology, Aba.
Abia State College of Education Arochukwu to become Abia State University of Education, Arochukwu.
Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Studies to become Abia State University of Science and Management Studies, Aba.
