Members of Atani Welfare Union (EWU) Worldwide rose from their Central Executive Committee meeting on September 21, 2022 at the Atani Hall after electing new officers to pilot the affairs of its umbrella union.
On the day, members from the branches of AWU unanimously elected an Owerri- based legal practitioner, Barr Kenneth Okwuobasi Ogbonna, as its President General (P-G).
Ogbanna succeeds Mazi Chekwas Albert Oti, after the expiration of his tenure. Under Oti’s watch, the Atani Hall was remodeled; there were periodic free health care outreach programmes; work commenced on the Atani II road project; celebration of the annual Atani Day was taken to a new level, among other developments.
Until his election as P-G, Ogbonna was the 1st Vice President General of the union. He had also erved as its Secretary General, as well as its Owerri branch President.
Others elected to the new Exco include Mazi Nnamela Obaa, 1st Vice President General; Mazi Felix Ukpabi, 2nd Vice President General; Mazi (Barr) Soni Nwamuo Kanu, Secretary General; and Mazi Obinnaya Oti, Assistant Secretary General.
Others are Mazi Samuel Okoro, Treasurer General; Mrs. Onyekachi Harbour, Financial Secretary General; Mazi Godwin Oby Oti, Public Relations Officer; and Elder Joseph Obasi Otah, Chief Welfare Officer.
Mazi Godson Onyegbule was elected the Assistant Welfare Officer; Mazi Okoroafor Ulu Oti will serve as the Chief Whip, assisted by Mazi Kelechi Orji.
