Excitement as Utughugwu access road receives govt attention

There is palpable excitement in Utuhugwu village as its access road, hitherto ravaged by gully erosion, has at last received the attention of two Federal government agencies, which have commenced rehabilitation work.

Recall that in December 2021, Nzuko Arochukwu had carried out palliative works on the road to save the community from being cut off from the rest of Arochukwu Kingdom.

In the past, Utughugwu residents had cried out over the terrible condition of the road without response from anywhere.

In particular, its President General, Mazi Kanu Orji, had at every opportunity, cried out over the deplorable condition of the road. The community union had in the past also appeald to the member representing Abia North, Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency and Abia State House of Assembly. So bad was the condition of the road that even Okada riders refused to ply that route.

However, succour has finally come the way of the community following the intervention of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and Chusking Nig. Ltd, now jointly carrying out rehabilitation works on the road.

Aro News gathered that FERMA’s involvement on the project was facilitated by an Aro-born engineer, Emeka Maduagwu. The aganecy’s involvement is for an initial 1 kilometer, while the section facilitated by the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, is for 600 meters.Aro News, during an on-the-spot assessment of the project, observed that, as of the first week of December, 2022, work had already progressed to the level of asphalting.
