How Uchenna Kalu Okoro emerged ASHA member elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in the early hours of Sunday the 19th of March, 2023, declared Uchenna Kalu Okoro the Labour Party flag bearer winner of the Arochukwu State Constituency, election for the Abia State House of Assembly.

He defeated several candidates including the current member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Hon. Mike Ukoha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who came second. Uchenna polled over 7,100 votes to emerge winner while  Dr Ukoha scored over 2900 votes.

It will be recalled that four candidates from Arochukwu contested the election in various parties. They include Dr. Mike Ukoha of APC, Collins Snith of YPP, Nnaemeka Oti of APP and Enyinnaya Owumere.

Abam Clan equally presented Uchenna Kalu Okoro of the Labour Party, Dr. Sam Okorie of Accord Party, Ike Okorafor of the All Progressives Grand Alliance etc. The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Emeka De Laz is a native of Ihechiowa clan.

Since 2015, no member has won a second term to represent Arochukwu State Constituency. Hon. Luke Ukara of APGA was elected to represent the constituency in 2015, he however lost in the party’s primaries to Dr Mike Ukoha who was eventually elected to represent the constituency in 2019.   

 According to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Abia State for the State House of Assembly elections, the Peoples Democratic Party has eleven member elects, in the 24 member House of Assembly, the Labour Party has ten member elects while the Young Progressives Party has two member elects. The All Progressives Congress takes the rear with one member elect.
