How Uloma Okereke emerged Mgbede Aro 2021

The annual Ikeji Aro Youth programme, consisting of the Mgbede Aro cultural pageant and the Talent Hunt competition, took place at Amaikpe Square on September 17, 2021 immediately after the Eke Ekpe festivities.

Seven contestants registered for the contest while three made it to the final stage. The contestants are: Adamazi Immaculata Ota (Atani); Adamazi Chidimma Chukwu  (Obinkita); Adamazi Ụzọ Nathaniel (Amankwu) and Adamazi Jennifer Obiakor (Ujari). 

Others are Adamazi Ozioma John (Oror); Adamazi Uloma Okereke (Amangwu) and Adamazi Queen Okeke (Arondizuogu). 

After various stages of the competition, which included traditional attires display, question and answer session, creativity show, the trio of Judith Igwe, Ifeoma Osondu and Kanu Chimidi, judges for the event, declared Adamazi Uloma Treasure Okereke, from Amangwu village, as the winner of the pageant and was crowned ‘Mgbede Aro Okeigbo’.

The first runner up, Adamazi Obiakor Jennifer from Ujari village, was crowned  Adamazi Aro Okeigbo while the second runner up, Adamazi Uzor Nathaniel from Amankwu village was crowned ‘Ada Aro’

After a display of skills in rap, dance, music and drama, Wilson Ogbonna emerged winner of the Talent Hunt competition.

It was an evening of fun, laced with display of various talents by the Aro youths. It was also an opportunity for them to express themselves and also give them a sense of belonging since most activities of Eke Ekpe seem to be dominated by older people.
