Nzuko Aro Worldwide has commissioned palliative works on the Utughugwu access road following the outcry of the village leadership, especially its President-General Mazi Kanu Orji, to save the community from being completely cut off from the rest of Arochukwu Kingdom.
The Utughugwu access road had, over the years, been steadily eaten up by gully erosion, making it largely un-motorable, least of all by Okada bikes.
Aro News learned that Utughugwu people had unrelentingly cried out over the state of the road, without response from the political class.
But apparently in its worst condition during this year’s rainy season, the leadership of Nzuko Aro took the bull by the horn, to fix the road, and save the villagers the agony of suffering broken limbs from frequent falls on the tortuous road.
While it engaged a contractor to carry out specified rehabilitation work on the road, Nzuko Aro also took steps to ensure that the job is done to scope, and timing.
Thus, it set up a monitoring committee for the task.
The committee is headed by Dr. Eustace Njaka, with Prof. Kenneth Ngwogu and Mazi Kanu Orji as members.
They are to monitor the remedial work on Utughugwu road; keep record and ensure that materials paid for are delivered and utilized; ensure that the work is properly executed according to the scope; take any other measures to help Nzuko Aro realize its objective of embarking on the repair work.
At the last count, Utughukwu P-G, Mazi Kanu Orji, and indeed others expressed gratitude to Nzuko Aro for intervening in their situation.
Perhaps most remarkable is the expression of gratitude by the Arianzu Arochukwu, Mazi Augustine Kanu Okoro, over the work.
The Aro monarch, in his letter to Nzuko Aro, said: “I am writing this letter to the leadership of Nzuko Arochukwu to extend my warmest appreciation for your thoughtfulness in embarking on the palliative reconstruction of Utughugwu road.
“Utughugwu village is one of the most significant villages in Arochukwu Kingdom and the decision of Nzuko Arochukwu to make this all-important village accessible deserves commendation.
“I thank you and congratulate you on behalf of my cabinet and the entire Aro people for this worthy course the apex Union (Nzuko Aro) has embarked on. This shows purposeful leadership.
“I urge Umu Aro to rally round Nzuko Arochukwu in this project.
Wishing you all the best; and Merry Christmas to all Umu Aro Okeigbo.”
And according to Secretary-General, Mazi Anicho Okoro, Nzuko Aro is ready to do anything that will make the remedial work serve the people better, subject to the availability of funds.
He thus announced N2million donation from an anonymous US-based Nwa Aro, towards the project.
