Queen Liana launches pet project

The 2nd runner-up of Beauty of Africa Pageant (BAIP), Queen Liana Ifunanya Okereke has organized her first pet.

The project tagged “Girl-child hygiene project for teenage girls in Arochukwu” is an initiative of the Queen Liana Okereke Foundation for young girls in Arochukwu community, aimed at educating teenage girls on the importance of sanitation and hygiene for a healthy living.

She noted that a good percentage of teenage girls in rural areas are at risk of contracting diseases and falling ill as a result of poor sanitation and lack of sanitary materials. In her words, “there is a need for this awareness to be created and there is certainly a greater need for people to support such projects to assist these girls with sanitary materials which so many of them cannot afford and when they try to manage, they end up contracting infections and diseases that may be injurious to their health. We created the awareness, to educate them and also distribute sanitation pads to them. I feel very excited doing this and I will continue”. She said.

Originally slated to hold at Obinkita hall, the project ended up being a village to village outreach. The team had in their company, Dr.Ryan Igwe  and some nurses who did some demonstrations for the girls and answered their questions.

The Ugbo-born beauty queen is a top Nigerian model and had done exploits in the pageant industry, she hopes to climb the ladders of success to the top. A graduate of the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Liana  is also the official catwalk trainer of the Most Beautiful Girl IN Arochukwu contest.

She thanked her organization, Beauty of Africa International Pageant, Nzuko Aro, Ezienyioma Social Club of Arochukwu, her family and her team for making the project a success.
