Architect Chima Chijioke

Humans come and go through life, just as memories of our most loved ones endure for life.

Architect Chima Chijioke was born in Omoba, Abia State, on the 22nd of September, 1945. His journey began with formal education at St. Barnabas School, Omoba, and Christ Church School, Owerri.

This paved the way for more studies at Government Secondary School, Owerri, and the College of Technology, Yaba, where he earned a diploma in Building.

Furthering his education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Chima obtained a B. Arch (Hons.) degree and an MURP Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning.

A distinguished career unfolded as he led Delta Design Consultants and later Landmark Architects, leaving his imprint on iconic projects such as Etiebet’s Place, NITEL office complex, and the Army Divisional Headquarters buildings.

Arc. Chima served as the National President of the Nigeria Institute of Architects, Deputy Chairman (Housing) for the Presidential Committee on Housing and Urban Development, and held key roles in various architectural and planning organizations. He left an indelible mark on the architectural landscape of Nigeria.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chima was a man of discipline, humility, kindness, love, and care. A devoted family man, he embraced a lifelong partnership with Stella as his loving wife in 1976, and together they nurtured a family of four children and two grandchildren.

In addition to his architectural legacy, Chima was a philanthropist with a heartbeat for education. He sponsored individuals abroad and passionately supported many through school. His commitment to uplifting others extended beyond the blueprint of buildings to the blueprint of humanity.

A pillar in the community, he became a National Patron of Nzuko Aro worldwide, earning the title of Ugwu Aro from his hometown, Arochukwu Kingdom, and receiving knighthood in The Anglican Church of Arochukwu.

Not only did Arc. Chima excel in his professional and personal life, he also stood as a beacon of Christian virtues. Rooted in faith, he exemplified the teachings of Christ in every facet of his existence. His Christian journey was marked by humility, compassion and a profound sense of community service.

Thus, be it through his role as a National patron of Nzuko Aro Worldwide or in the quiet moments of mentorship, his Christian values shone brightly. In the tapestry of his life, the threads of faith and service were intricately woven, leaving a lasting legacy that extends beyond architectural achievements — a testament to a life well-lived in the light of God’s grace.

May Arc. Chima Chijioke’s soul rest in eternal peace in the bosom of the Lord. His legacy lives on.
