AWU Lagos Branch Celebrates at 52…Honours Abia Governor, others

It was a day of pump and pageantry as members of Atani Welfare Union, Lagos branch, celebrated its 52rd anniversary in the City of Excellence.  All roads led to Neniv Conference and Events Center, Mafoluku, along Murtala Mohammed International Airport road, on Saturday, 2nd December. 2023 as the President, Mazi Henry Nsydinanaya, his executives and members of the planning committee led by Mazi Nkemji Ikechukwu, welcomed Umu Atani and guests from all walks of life to an evening of fun and celebration.

 The branch which came into being in 1971 has witnessed tremendous growth and progress. For instance, Atani is the only village of the nineteen villages that boasts of a land of its own in Lagos.

The event proper commenced with a minute silence in honour of Late Madam Edna Nweke, a member of the union, who passed on a few hours before the event. Word of exaltation was delivered by Pastor Henry Nsydinanaya before the event compere, Mazi Eze Achinivu took charge of proceedings.

The event which was chaired by Mazi Okoro Nwaka also had in attendance, Barr Kenneth Ogbbonna, President General of Atani Welfare Union, who commended the branch for its giant strides. He pointed out that his administration plans to have more branches within and outside Nigeria among several other initiatives.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, a member of the branch, bagged a special award and was represented by the founder of Fedex Red Star Express Plc, Mazi Sonny Allison.

Awards were given to deserving sons and daughters of the union who had at one time or the other served meritoriously. Some of the award recipients include Mazi Ike Okoronkwo, Managing Director/CEO of Aiteo E & P Ltd, who dedicated his award to his late elder brother, Mazi Chijioke Okoronkwo;  Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, OFR, Mazi Adindu Elekwa, Mazi Nwosu Nwaka, Mazi Sam Nwankwo, Mazi Okoro Nwaka, Madam Gift Kanu, the only female President of the branch, just to mention but a few.

Others who graced the event include Dr. Emma Nwadeyi, Mazi Elvis Ogbonna, Mazi Eugene Onoh, President, Nzuko Aro, Lagos branch, Mazi Jideofor Kanu, Mazi & Mrs. Ikpeama Igwe.
