Okaro elected National President of AWEP, Nigeria

In a significant development during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the African School of Economics, Abuja, Dr. Grace Okaro, the immediate Past Governor of Rotary International District 9142, has been elected as the new National President of the African Women Entrepreneurship Programme (AWEP) in Nigeria.

Dr. Okaro, a member of AWEP for approximately six years, has previously held key roles within the organization, including Zonal Secretary of South East, State Coordinator of Abia, and National Public Relations Officer.

The newly elected executive members of AWEP include Hajia Farida Yahaya as Deputy National President, Mrs. Nelly Ndaguba as National Secretary-General, Hajia Ruqayyah Mohammed as National Financial Secretary, and Mrs. Rosemary Akwashiki as National Treasurer.

Ms. Amede Achingale retained her position as the National Internal Auditor, and Mrs. Helen Imoagene secured the role of National Publicity Secretary.

The Zonal Vice-Presidents are Dr. Jackie Ikeotuonye for North Central, Mrs. Peace Baba Ali for North East, and Hajia Ramatu Ibrahim for North West.

Others include Engr. Stella Eneh for South East, Mrs. Josephine Rhône Peters for South South, and Mrs. Yetunde Adegbite for South West.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the newly elected executives, Dr. Okaro conveyed appreciation to the organization’s members for the confidence placed in the leadership team.

She pledged to exceed expectations and utilize her leadership experience across various domains, extensive networks, and strategic thinking for the transformation of AWEP and the advancement of its members’ businesses.

Dr. Okaro committed to organizing regular entrepreneurial leadership trainings to enhance members’ knowledge and skills.

She also vowed to establish an inclusive business environment tailored to the diverse needs of members in different zones.

Leveraging her professional background, she emphasized the enhancement of opportunities for individual and collective achievements, with a focus on promoting such successes in the media to motivate members.

In her address, Dr. Okaro highlighted plans for effective communication channels to disseminate information and receive feedback from members, stakeholders, and the public.

She further promised to create a forum for stakeholders and support service providers, offering members opportunities for business development.

Additionally, Dr. Okaro announced the introduction of quarterly virtual business sessions, ensuring representation from every zone for the exchange of knowledge and skills.
