Leadership Foundation for African Girl Child and Women

The Leadership Foundation for African Girl Child and Women, an NGO that aims to build leadership skills among girls and women to enable them to compete effectively in Nigeria and internationally, recently held a series of awareness campaign in Arochukwu, to equip the venerable young females on skill acquisitions, mentoring and need for quality education. The foundation brings its message of female empowerment to an ever-wider audience in Nigeria and beyond through workshops, seminars and mentoring.

Recently, the NGO organised a two-day programme at Atani Hall for all teenage girls in Arochukwu from the 19 villages. Participation was free of charge, and the programme built back the lost dignity of some the attendees.

The founder of the NGO, Mrs. Viola Okoro, informed Aro News that at the end of the two-day programme, nine young girls who dropped out of school appealed for scholarships to enable them complete their studies, a demand her NGO has been able to meet. However, the NGO is still shopping for funds to enroll more girls into various skill acquisition programmes.

Viola Okoro had an impressive career, working in advertising and public relations while receiving an MBA from Lagos State University in Nigeria in 2007. But her dream was to improve the life chances of African women and girls, and she studied at the University of East London (UEL) for a second MBA, where her ambitions began to take concrete shape with her exposure to people from diverse backgrounds helping shape her ideas.

In 2014, on her return to Nigeria, she founded the Leadership Foundation for African Girl Child and Women, an NGO that aims to build leadership skills among girls and women to enable them to compete effectively in Nigeria and internationally.

Viola Okoro is married to Mazi Sampson Mkpokoro Ugochukwu Okoro, from Nde Chima in Ugbo Village. She has taken her work home.

It is a message that also colours Viola’s recent book, now in a second edition, and with a title that illustrates her ambitions for Africa’s girls: Effective Approaches to Parenting a Super Girl.
