Abia State governor, Alex Otti on November 30, inaugurated the 17 local government transition council chairpersons with a charge to evolve programmes that align with the rebuilding agenda of the State government.
Speaking during the inaugural exercise at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, the capital of Abia, Otti admonished the newly sworn-in officers to prioritize the security and welfare of the people of Abia as they pilot the affairs of the local government councils.
Responding on behalf of other council chairmen, the Mayor of Umunochi Local Government Area, Chief Ndubuise Ike, said they will strengthen the security architecture in the towns and villages within their domain, thanking the governor for appointing them.
The Mayors and their deputies are; IsialaNgwa South LGA; Chairman, Dr Elelenta Nwambuisi Elele, Deputy, Mr. Eberechukwu Ahuruonye, Ukwa West LGA; Chairman,Mr. Newman Azu, Deputy, Mr. Anele Michael, Arochukwu LGA; Chairman, Chief Joe Eze Aru, Deputy, Mr. Okezie Azuma.
Others are, Umuahia South LGA; Chairman, Mr. Obike Ejike Nnochiri, Deputy, Mr. Olendingwa Nwabueze. Mr. C.Y Nwankwo is to serve as the Mayor for Isiala Ngwa North, with Mr. Uchenna Nwanbuko as his Deputy. For Umunneochi LGA, Mr. Ndubuisi Ike is the LGA’s Mayor to be deputized by Mr. Njoku Augustine C.
Air Vice Marshal Chinwendu Onyike (rtd) is to oversee affairs of Isiukwuato LGA, with Hon. Harrison Onuke serving as his Deputy. Mr. Osinachi Hyacinth Nwaka is saddled with the responsibility of Isiukwuato LGA, ably assisted by Chief Charles Ugbuajah. For Bende LGA, Barr. Chijioke Nwankwo is appointed the Mayor and Mr. Onyedikachi Iroegbu his Deputy. Business mogul, Ohafia LGA, Chief David Ogba is the Mayor of Ohafia LGA with Hon. Mkpa Oju Uka as Deputy. Obingwa LGA has Dr. Eric Egwuibe and Mr. Chiemela Ekpemu as Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively.
Appointed as Mayor of Ugwunagbo LGA is Comrade Nosike Ihesiaba with Mr. Nnamdi Kelvin Chijioke as his Deputy, Ukwa East LGA, has Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Nwagbara as Mayor and Chief Onyebuchi Nnah as Deputy. Umuahia North LGA, Chief Victor Ikeji is the Mayor while Mr. Okechukwu Anthony Amah, is the Deputsy.
The bustling city of Aba South has Mr. Uchechukwu A.C Wogu as its Mayor with Mrs. Nkiru Ugwu as Deputy. Billionaire businessman Ide John Udeagbala is saddled with the leadership of Aba North with Prince Nnaemeka Ogbonna as his Deputy while Engr Israel Nweke and Barr. Young Ngwaziem are to serve as Mayor and Deputy respectively for Osisioma LGA.
Shortly after the swearing-in exercise, the governor in the company of his cabinet members met with the delegation of Bank of Industry (BOI) management, led by the Executive Director of Corporate Services, Mr. Usen Effiong, who came on a business visit to him.
What dominated the topic of discussion during the working visit of the BOI delegation is how the Alex Otti-led administration will gainfully engage the people and reduce hardship, and hunger and reposition Abia State as a leading State with the ease of doing business across the country.
