The Lagos branch of Nzuko Arochukwu, at its August 2021 general meeting, elected new officers to run its affairs for the next three years.

The election came on the heels of the expiration of the statutory span of the Ejike Onwuchekwa-led Executive, which came into office six years ago.

The branch had earlier served notice of the election to hold on August 29, following which members publicly indicated their interest in various positions.

As the election date drew closer, aspirants made personal contacts with members of the union, seeking their support. By and large, the D-day arrived – Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Done with the usual opening formalities of the meeting, Mazi Sam Ejike Onwuchekwa announced that his tenure as president was over, necessitating the conduct of the election as scheduled.

He read his valedictory speech, which encapsulated the activities of his administration in the past six years. He thus called for a motion to dissolve the Exco, setting the stage for an election.

The electoral team comprised Mazi Nnamdi Udoh, immediate past President General of Nzuko Aro Worldwide (Chairman); Deacon Kingsley Okoro Kanu aka Kingmoore; Mazi Emmanuel Jideofor Kanu (Secretary); Sir Ernie Onwumere, and all the patrons present at the meeting.

The officers elected – some without opposition – included: Deacon Eugene (Okwara Aro) Onoh, President; Barr Kingsley Uche Okoro, 1st Vice President; Mazi Steve Anicho, 2nd Vice President; Pastor Henry Nsidinanya, Secretary; and Engr. Chidi Enyi Okoro, Asst Secretary.

Others are Engr. Okorafor Chiori, Treasurer; Mazi Iroanyan Abraham, Financial Secretary; Mazi Okwara Imoko, Asst Financial Secretary; Mazi Charles Thomas, Publicity Secretary; Mazi Obasi Iwowo, Social Welfare Officer; and Mazi Daniel Obinali Umeh, Chief Whip/Provost.

In his acceptance speech, Deacon Eugene Onoh – hitherto the 1st Vice President – thanked Umu Aro present for finding him worthy to lead the union in that exalted position. He promised to serve the union with honesty and the fear of God.

On his part, Mazi Nnamdi Udoh congratulated the new Exco members, and commended the electorate for conducting themselves in the manner expected of Umu Aro.

The new Exco members were immediately sworn-in at a ceremony presided over by Mazi Kingmoore, who also facilitated refreshments to round off the event.
